ST KILDA
DETAILS
A large scale renovation and extension was undertaken on this site in a quiet tree lined court. The existing house was cut in half and propped before major structural work began. The new modern structure to the rear includes open plan living and entertaining, with new bathrooms, kitchen and laundry. The large loft above the new extension serves as a private playroom for children.
The design ensured that the new structure is barely visible from the front street scape, so as not to compromise the period style facade.
The project comprised of an extension and renovation of an existing single storey Edwardian home including a modern open plan rear single storey extension, a multi-function loft area and exterior decking. The rear extension is a stunning modern structure inspired by Californian architecture of the 50’s and 60’s.
The use of natural light is a feature of the house incorporating glass external walls spanning floor to ceiling. Natural materials and colours were used throughout the home creating a serene atmosphere, blending the modern extension with the existing period charm.
